| The College of Engineering began with five separate departments when Incheon College, the predecessor of the current university, was established in 1979. It has now been extended to six engineering departments (including the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, the Department of Civil and Environmental System Engineering, the Department of Architectural Engineering, and the Department of Industrial and Management Engineering) and the Division of Advanced Materials and Safety Engineering, which includes two |

majors (Advanced Materials Engineering and Safety Engineering). Both disciplines are aimed at cultivating and training high-tech engineers required by our contemporary industrial and information society. The master and doctorate courses were established in accordance with the need for highly specialized and integrated technological skills. They offer a higher degree of education and training programs, as well as joint technology evelopment projects in collaboration with industry-related companies and research institutes, thereby contributing via numerous aspects to regional and national development. Thanks to their diligence in the pursuit of excellence, the departments have successfully attracted many distinguished professors and lecturers as well as students, resulting in a considerable commitment to the development of regional and national industries. With the relocation of the campus to Songdo, and the transition from a municipal to a national university serving as the impetus, these departments have developed a specific and viable development scheme ready to be implemented. |
| The College of Engineering has been preparing for the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK) in an attempt to obtain certification by the end of 2008. With the goals of cultivating experts with responsibility, morals and ethics, integrated design ability, on-the-job performance ability and creativity, it has concentrated a substantial amount of effort on producing a workforce with international competitiveness and a future-oriented mindset. |
